Basel Araj is an astute finance and banking professional with nearly 20 years of rich experience in Banking, Business & Financial consulting across the Jordanian and regional markets. Mr. Araj is presently serving at Arab Jordan Investment Bank (AJIB), Amman-Jordan (Head Office) as Chief Risk Officer leading Risk Management, Compliance & Financial Institutions. Previously, he had led the Bank’s operations and branches.

Mr. Araj has gained strong expertise in handling global transactions, business and product development with International Banks such as Citibank and has developed competency in managing bank operations and implementing strategies towards enhancing market penetration, business volumes and growth at the local and regional levels. He is a seasoned strategic planner with expertise in designing systems & procedures and contributing towards improved financial performance, heightened productivity and enhanced controls and risk management.

Mr. Araj is known for his coaching and team development abilities, resolving dysfunctional behavior, facilitating problem solving and collaboration. He has built a very successful track record in training and functioned as Lecturer/Trainer in Banking Operations, Risk Management and Structured and Trade Finance in several local and regional banks and institutions.

Mr. Araj is a Board Member of the MasterCard Market Development Fund for the MENA Region. He is a member of the Harvard Business Review HBR Advisory Council, and a mentor with Mentor Board, Oasis500 the MENA region’s premier early stage and seed investment program, which includes entrepreneurship training, mentorship, incubation and follow-on and angel investment funds.

Basel Araj holds a Master in Business Administration (MBA) from Lancaster University Management School, United Kingdom, and a Master in Public Administration MPA (with focus on Leadership, Strategy and Change Management) from Harvard Kennedy School, Harvard University, United States. He holds a Diploma in International Trade & Finance from IFS University College, United Kingdom, has a Master Degree in Banking and Financial Sciences from Arab Academy for Banking and Financial Sciences, Jordan.

He is certified in International Trade & Finance (CITF) in 2009 and certified as a Documentary Credits Specialist (CDCS) in 2002 from IFS University College, United Kingdom.
