Under the Patronage of His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein Bin Abdullah II, Oasis 500 has the pleasure to invite you to attend the GLOBAL COMMISSION ON INTERNET GOVERNANCE (GCIG) event in Amman on the 19th of March 2016 at the Oasis 500 site in the King Hussein Business Park.

The Global Commission on Internet Governance (GCIG) is a two-year initiative launched by Canadian think-tank, the Centre for International Governance Innovation (CIGI) and Chatham House.

The GCIG event will bring together leaders, thinkers, researchers, practitioners and entrepreneurs from around the world who are engaged in international governance with recognized impact on significant global problems. The GCIG will produce a comprehensive stand on the future of multi-stakeholder Internet governance to be launched in the summer of 2016.

GCIG has convened meetings in various locations across the world, and the Middle East would have been absent without this meeting in Jordan. The promise that the internet holds for job opportunities for Middle Eastern youth is perhaps among the highest in the world. The feedback we receive in the planned meeting (hosted by Oasis 500) we are holding with Jordanian youth including the challenges that they face, will be taken into consideration in the final report due on June 2016.

Providing a platform for an interactive exchange and open dialog between participating actors, the event will be divided into plenary sessions with keynote speakers, parallel series of private and public sessions, as well as panel discussion meetings. Post-event meeting tours and activities will also be held on the final day to facilitate networking and socializing.

This year’s meeting will focus on the following topics:

  • Future of Internet governance
  • Environmental rights and human security
  • Individual privacy
  • Sustainable economic growth and development
  • Internet policy formulation
  • Economic and social benefits of the Internet economy
