On February 22nd and 23rd , 2016, representatives from Finnegan, one of the world’s leading intellectual property law firms, spoke at the Oasis500 Training Space in Building 7 of the King Hussein Business Park. This event came as part of a series of lectures and get-togethers planned by Finnegan in order to explain the value of identifying intellectual property rights and how to utilize, monetize, and license these rights. These rights help companies generate licensing revenue, and also help companies during investment stages when value is placed on a patent portfolio.
During the visit, Finnegan attorneys Laith Abu-Taleb, Anthony Del Monaco, and Louis Troilo, provided an introduction to intellectual property and the value of protecting assets. They went into detail about patent and trademark identification, and had interactive discussions with the audience on how to monetize, utilize, or license their intellectual property once they file for it.
It is worth noting that Finnegan has worked numerous clients such as Google, Yahoo, BMW, Disney, and Coca-Cola in doing exactly that. In fact, Finnegan worked with Google and Yahoo when those companies were still startups.
The event which took place between 2:00 – 5:00 pm over the two consecutive days, covered patents, trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets. In addition, Prizes were given out.
The value of intellectual property, including patents, trademarks, and copyrights, is often overlooked by startups in the region. This is partially due to the lack of an in-depth understanding of the benefit of filing for IP both domestically and internationally. This is why all of this and more have been discussed by the Finnegan attorneys in Arabic and English during the sessions and meetings.
